In loving memory of Lawrence Pettus Jr. (May 20, 1992 – July 18,2023), the Central Arkansas Hope Coalition is a collective of organizations and individuals who are dedicated to educating the at-large public about substance abuse, opioid misuse, and available treatment options.
We will foster prevention and treatment efforts that will move the communities we serve forward and use our experience serving the community to positively impact those in need.
We are currently seeking coalition membership with the Community Anti-Drug Coalition of America (CADCA), a network of over 5000 anti-drug coalitions nationwide. With this in mind, we are fully committed to the national movement to build healthy, drug-free communities and empower youth to reject substance use and misuse so they can reach their full potential.
Show your support to our efforts in fight the against opioid overdoses by joining the Central Arkansas Hope Coalition.
Our mission is to educate the public about substance abuse, expand access to treatment for substance abuse, and stop the opioid overdose crisis in Central Arkansas.
We will encourage the treatment and healthcare community to reach across the aisle to community serving organizations and unite in efforts to educate the community about substance abuse and opioids.
We believe that if we all work together, and help get people who desire treatment into treatment, we can change the color on the Naloxone Administrations by County heat map in all our target counties from red to white. We are currently active in Pulaski County and Saline County, but eventually plan to reach Jefferson, Lonoke, Faulkner, and Garland Counties.
While conducting an extensive review of data published by the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) to assess opioid related overdose rates in Pulaski and Saline County, we identified four neighboring counties that all have alarming opioid related overdose rates. This is signified by their scarlet red coloring on the ADH Naloxone Administrations by county report. Those counties are Jefferson, Faulkner, Garland, and Lonoke. Because these counties bear geographic and demographic similarities to Pulaski and Saline, we chose to make it our mission to improve conditions in all of them.
We believe that implementation of demographically appropriate, evidence - based prevention efforts in these areas can change their color on all the ADH reports from red to white.
We are of the belief that the best intervention for substance use disorder and Opioid Use Disorder is prevention. We are of the belief that the best intervention for substance use disorder and Opioid Use Disorder is prevention. So, it is our mission to have local Peer Support Specialist and intervention trained individuals go into the public and educate the masses about substance use disorder and accidental overdose. It's our hope that all Arkansans have the ability to make informed decisions surrounding substance use and abuse.
With this in mind, we will actively partner with local business, non-profit organizations, churches etc. to go out into the community and start an open and honest dialogue in Central Arkansas about the opioid crisis and how we can each protect ourselves and our loved ones from falling victim to accidental overdose.

Because of these symptoms, people who want to stop using opioid based substances often continue to use if they can't access treatment.
One of our goals is to ensure that people with substance use disorder and experience opioid withdrawal symptoms have access to medically supervised detox, corresponding medically supervised inpatient treatment or Medically Assited Treatment, and appropriate recovery options.

As a member organization of the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance and the Street Outreach Services Team of the City of Little Rock, we have made a commitment to aide in the fight against hunger and poverty in Pulaski County as we fight substance use disorder.
We will host and participate in community fairs that not only bring substance abuse awareness to the community, but also food resources, household essentials, and living essentials for those who live under the poverty line.
We will encourage our partners who are involved in the fight against hunger to join the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance and expand their capacity to serve. We will also encourage our restaurant partners to join the Potluck network and donate their daily waste to feeding efforts towards the impoverished.
Pulaski County is now experiencing unprecedented rises in violent crime, incarceration and homelessness, hunger, and other social issues. Systemic issues require the development and implementation systemic solutions. It is with this belief that we intend to work collaboratively with our partner organizations and identify demographically appropriate, evidence-based prevention efforts that can be implemented across Central Arkansas.
Because substance abuse is a common risk factor to the people experiencing poverty, we believe that helping them break their dependency on opioids and other substances can not only help pull them out poverty and out of dependence on our states systems. We believe that by improving systems in prevention, treatment, and recovery, we can reverse all negative societal trends and give people the hope that they need to live free of chemical dependency.
